What are the advantages and disadvantages of air conditioner cover?

"The advantages are the following: • The air conditioner coils are kept clean and as a result the system runs efficiently when it is operated. • Debris like sticks, branches, and leaves do not blow into the air conditioning unit. • The cover of the air conditioner prevents water from directly resting on the coils and freezing. It is important to prevent the freezing because that would otherwise damage the system. The disadvantages of air conditioner cover are the following: • When you cover the entire air conditioning unit, it might actually trap moisture creating a high humidity environment as the sun beats down the cover. • Small animals can make covered air conditioner their home which in turn proves detrimental for the unit. This is because small animals like mice can chew the wires which in turn leads to expensive repairs. • At the same time, most of the air conditioner manufacturers do not recommend any kind of cover for the units. This is because the systems are designed to withstand harsh outdoor conditions. "
