What is a portable air conditioner?
A portable air conditioner is a self-contained free standing unit that typically sits within the area that is intended to be cooled – providing traditional ‘refrigerant driven’ air conditioned air.

What is self evaporation? Why is it one of the important features of portable ac units?
All air conditioners have to go through a condensation process. In window air conditioners, because more than 75% of the AC is mounted outside the window, all the condensed water is allowed to drip freely outside. But in case of portable AC, because the AC is inside the room, all the condensed water is stored within an in built tank that needs to be drained. So our Portable AC's use latest technology of Self Evaporation. In this process, AC tries to get rid of most of the water stored in the in built tank by self evaporation, thereby leaving only a small amount that needs to be drained manually which is quiet easy as well. ALL portable AC's have in built water tank which holds water that cannot be self evaporated. Once that water tank is full, the AC shuts itself down and a light blinks on air conditioner's LCD panel indicating it needs to be emptied.

BASED ON THIS TECHNOLOGY AC WILL NEVER LEAK EVEN WHEN THE WATER TANK IS FULL. There is a small rubber cork at the bottom of the AC, ONCE YOU PULL that out, the water just drains out and you can empty it in any pan and restart the AC right away. How often would you need to empty the water tank? Answer is no one can really predict that, as it totally depends on the humidity. It could be once a week or once every few hours. It all depends on your usage and the humidity on that particular day and you can always use the option 2 for continous drainage without having to worry about emptying. Continous drainage system drains the water automatically and you never have to empty it manually and it is very easy to setup as well. See option 2 for continous drainage and option 1 for manual drainage below.

Why do you have to exhaust or vent a portable air conditioner?
Why do you need a hose and window or wall kit?

This is how a portable AC works, it blows cold air from the front panel and blows warm air from the back of the air conditioner. This is because the compressor inside these AC's which help blow cold air into the room get hot after running for a certain while and all the heat generating from this compressor needs to be thrown outside or else it will end up heating the room instead of cooling it. This is why you run the hose outside either through the window or wall or through ceiling or any other possible means like fireplace for example. We just wanna make sure all that heat is going out and stays out so you can enjoy cold breeze in the room.

How can I choose my portable air conditioner?
In order to choose the right portable air conditioner, you need to be aware as to how many BTU/h would be sufficient to properly condition your desired area. The BTU/h calculation depends upon factors like the type and size of the area, exposure to sun, number of windows (if any), insulation facilities, and the average number of people present there.

What are the pros and cons of a portable air conditioner?
Portable Air Conditioners are easy-to-use handy devices, which can be moved around from one place to the other with ease. You can use them even without any permanent installation. However, you need to make sure that you place them close to a window or French door to avoid any sort of obstruction in releasing the hot and humid air outside the air conditioned area, through the tube provided.

What is required when using a portable air conditioner?
To use a portable air conditioner, you need to consider whether you have the following three things: an external window for the discharge of hot air, sufficient space for placing the device, and a power outlet.

Can an air conditioner work on several rooms simultaneously?
Though portable air conditioners are designed to condition one room at a time, it is possible to cool several rooms if they are adjacent and there is good air flow between them.

Where do I place the air hose?
Portable Air Conditioners come with window kits. You can use them to attach the hose to a windowfor the discharge of hot air.

What happens if the hose is not long enough to reach the window?
The exhaust hose can stretch to a maximum of about 3.3 ft in length. You need to make the necessary arrangements by freeing up some space near the window or French door, in order to place the device properly.

Can I use a portable air conditioner to cool a room that has no windows or doors to the outside?
Yes you can. In that case you need to drill a hole in the wall, which is adjacent to the external environment, for proper outlet of the hot air through the exhaust hose.

What is the difference between portable air conditioners and air coolers?
Air coolers use moisture, like a swamp cooler, to cool an area. This makes them quite a bit less effective in areas that are already humid, and they have a smaller cooling radius. On the other hand, they can often double as humidifiers. A portable air conditioner actually cools the air with a Freon system and generally has a larger cooling radius than an air cooler.

Is it safe to leave portable air conditioners during the night?
All portable air conditioners collect condensation as they cool. This is generally collected in a water tray in the air conditioning units themselves. If the water is about to overflow, the portable air conditioner will shut itself off. Generally, portable air conditioners have this same function if their air filter is about to overflow. The only real hazard is if you have plugged a portable air conditioner into an overused plug. Room air conditioners use a good amount of electricity and can cause a short if they don't have a dedicated plug. Otherwise, portable air conditioners are as safe as any other appliance or air conditioner.

Can I lengthen the exhaust hose on a portable air conditioner?
While it is possible, extending the exhaust hose can often void the warranty on your air conditioning unit. In addition, if your workmanship isn't professional, it might be unsafe to lengthen the exhaust hose. If you would like to move your portable air conditioner, just move the exhaust hose or get two air conditioners.

Can I use a portable air conditioner in a room without a window?
Just like all other air conditioning units, portable air conditioners need to have somewhere to release heat. A window is usually the most convenient way for portable air conditioning to vent, but there are other ways. For example, you can attach the exhaust tube to an air vent. Maybe the best idea would be to install a small vent leading directly outside.

What is a portable air conditioner or spot cooler?
An AirPac spot cooler is a portable, self-contained air conditioner used to cool a space. The entire unit is portable and can be moved to another space, if needed.

How loud are the portable air conditioners?
We’ll give you the Decibel (dB) levels and offer the “plain spoken” translation. The COOLIT series ranges from 52 dB – the sound in a normal office to 58 dB – a sewing machine or typewriter. The PortaPac series have powerful blowers and the noise levels will vary depending on the ducting. You can figure on an operating level of around 68 - 70dB – a refrigerator or vacuum cleaner.

Does the portable air conditioner come with a thermometer?
Few portable air conditioner have options for temperature control. You can use the standard, ON - OFF controls, add a standard, electronic thermostat, a programmable electronic thermostat or, the Cadillac of Tstats, the internet/network ready thermostat which can be monitored and programmed on your computer network or remotely from any internet connection.

How cold will my room get?
That depends on the heat load in the room and the size of the portable air conditioner. The air conditioner will provide a 15 – 20 degree temperature drop. So if your room is 80 degrees Fahrenheit, then the air coming out of the air conditioner will be 60 – 65 degrees Fahrenheit. As the room cools, the temperature of the air coming from the air conditioner will also drop. The temperature you are able to maintain in the room will depend on the heat load in the room.

How do I figure out which portable air conditioner I need?
Nonetheless, when it comes to choosing a portable AC , one of the most common mistakes consumers make is incorrectly sizing their unit. Portable air conditioners are sized according to BTUs, which stands for British Thermal Units. A BTU is a unit of energy that is commonly used in the power, steam generation, and heating and air conditioning industries. Generally speaking, a portable air conditioner's BTU rating describes its power and cooling capacity. Naturally, the higher the BTUs, the stronger the portable AC. Portable air conditioners have cooling capacities that usually range from 5,000 BTUs to as high as 30,000 BTUs, and the size needed to cool a room will depend on the area being cooled. Thus, an incorrectly sized portable AC with insufficient or excess BTUs will result in inefficient cooling.

How to empty the drip pan ?
This product has a self-evaporative system. The condensing water will be recycled to cool the condenser. This can not only improve cooling efficiency, but also save energy for you. If the inside water is full, the display panel will display “P2”, and the compressor will stop running. Please turn the machine off and move the machine to the place where can drain water, and then unplug the water-draining hole. After drainage, you can power it on and the machine will run again. Unplug the air conditioner, disconnect the exhaust hose from the back, and move the air conditioner to a suitable drain location or outdoors. You may also place a pan under the drain that will hold up to 1 quart of water. When the internal water collection tank is full, the air conditioner will turn off until the tank is emptied. Remove the drain cap from the drain outlet. Once the water collection tank is drained, reinstall the drain cap, making sure it is on securely. Place the air conditioner in the desired location, reconnect the exhaust hose, and plug in the air conditioner.

I want to use the machine just as a fan?
No the machine was designed to draw hot moist air from the room thats why it blows out the back. All you can do is run it in dry mode leaving the hose on.

How to reset unit from E2 error ?
The E2 error code is a sensor protection feature. It is an Auto Stop Protection designed to avoid the occurrence of unit damage. The unit will likely require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

How do i reset my portable AC when i get FL error?
Empty out the water using the bottom plug and it will reset itself.

Why do I have to empty the water tank 4 times in one day?
You must live in an area with high humidity. The higher the humidity index, the more you need to empty the drain tank.

Should the hose vent be disconnected from the main unit when running in the dry mode (dehumidifying)?
The Dry Mode will run the fan and sealed system to extract moisture from the air, but will not cool. Because humidity can make it feel warmer than it actually is, running the Dry Mode will make the room more comfortable. Say the temperature is 70°F and the Humidity Level is 90%. Because the humidity is so high, it makes it feel like it is really 80°F. This is called the heat index (what temp FEELS like). By removing moisture, the heat index is reduced, making it feel more like the actual temperature of 70°F. Generally speaking, the vent hose may be disconnected from the window during this mode. The base pan will collect any condensation in the air. The base pan should be emptied as this occurs. Some models have the option to connect a hose for continuous drain.

How to select the correct size portable air conditioner?
These are the steps for choosing the correct size air conditioner:
1. Measure the length and width of the room to be cooled.
2. Multiply the length of the room by the width to determine square feet (Ex. 10 x 12 room is 120 sq. ft.).
3. Locate the sq. ft. in the chart below.
4. Find the BTU/Hr size depending on the sun exposure and the ceiling of the room to be cooled. This is the base BTU/Hr Rating.
5. For rooms that will be occupied by many people, add 600 BTU/person over 2.
6. For cooling a kitchen, add 4,000 BTU/hr to the base BTU according to the chart.
7. Rooms with a lot of windows or doors will need a larger unit than what is listed. Add 200 BTU/Window or Door over 2.
8. Units in rooms of an incorrect size will not work according to specification. Units will be overworked if too small, or will continually freeze up if too big.

Why isn't the compressor coming on right away every time?
Unplugging/power loss will delete the programing(temp setting, etc). Set temp, fan speed, mode. Power on. The fan will come on and sensors will check your temp setting then the compressor will start when needed.

What type of electrical requirements does a portable ac need?
All Portable AC's use a typical household 115 VAC wall outlet for operation. However, as air conditioners can draw a significant amount of energy, caution must be taken not to overload a circuit with multiple high energy consumption devices (e.g. refrigerator or dehumidifier on the same circuit). Energy consumption will vary depending on the model and your environmental conditions.

What is required when using a portable air conditioner?
To use a portable air conditioner, you need to consider whether you have the following three things: an external window for the discharge of hot air, sufficient space for placing the device, and a power outlet. If you do not have a window, you can vent this through the wall as well. You will need to make a 4-5 inch hole in the wall in that case.
